Desiring to implement the programmatic thrust of “World-Class Service”, eighteen committed sorors sought the approval of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s national board to expand Zeta’s presence in the New Orleans community. The sorors ranged in membership five to twenty years in Zeta. On March 23, 1992 Omicron Nu Zeta Chapter was granted charter status and approved by International Grand Basileus Dr. Eunice S. Thomas. A closed ceremony was conducted on April 18, 1992 by Southern Region Director Regina Holmes and Louisiana State Director Mary B. Wright.
Charter members were Dr. Gail Armant, Lee H. Ausama. Blanche Bell, Clover B. Davis, Shelia D. Forest, Estella F. Lain, Cynthia Willard-Lewis, Lillie J. Madison, Agnes N. Pellette, Dorothy J. Perrault, Paula Pete, Jacqueline R. Bijou, Belinda W. Rodgers, Iris D. Spells, Miriam Vall, Geraldine Washington, Sandra B. Wilkins and Doreen M. Young.
From its earliest years Omicron Nu Zeta Sorors have continuously focused and developed activities based upon the four principles of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority: Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love, and Finer Womanhood. Activities included tutorial programs, Thanksgiving Baskets, Stork’s Nest, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, debutante balls, Z-HOPE, and various community outreach projects.
In 1993 Omicron Nu Zeta supported undergraduate students in chartering Iota Omicron Citywide Chapter. The chapter also serves as the sponsoring graduate chapter for Zeta Beta Chapter at Southern University at New Orleans. Omicron Nu Zeta Chapter continues to sponsor Zeta Youth Auxiliaries: Pearlettes, Amicettes, and Archonettes.
The talented sorors of Omicron Nu Zeta demonstrate leadership in their personal and professional personal endeavors. The chapter’s leadership includes: Dororthy J. Perrault (1992-1994), Estella F. Lain (1994-1998), Belinda W. Rodgers (1998-2000), Shelia D. Forest (2000-2004), Vanessa Logan (2004-2008) Brenda G. Chapital (2008-2014), Agatha Marshall-Jackson (2014-2016), and Dionne Frost (2016-Present). Today, the chapter’s legacy continues to develop as more dynamic women choose to become members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
